Weiss Wednesday: Paul Kulas

You Just Gotta Poke Around.

Paul's introduction to Weiss began with an Imogene + Willie email, a few questions about watches, and a shared love of the Grateful Dead.

What followed was an unexpected friendship, a one-of-one Cardinal CAL 1003, and a newfound appreciation for mechanical watchmaking.

Eight months later, Paul calls himself a watch person. More importantly, he considers the people behind his watch friends.

“When I wear my Cardinal, I see and feel the WWC crew. I dig that my Cardinal is about so much more than keeping time.”

Stories like Paul's remind us that the best things we make aren't always things you can hold.

Read Paul's story in this week's Weiss Wednesday.

Weiss Wednesday: Paul Kulas

You Just Gotta Poke Around

My Weiss Watch Company story begins with an email from Imogene + Willie, a neighbor of Weiss in Nashville. They were doing a collaboration with some company called Weiss Watch Company. Imogene + Willie is a trusted source, and I'd been wanting to ditch my Apple Watch. Curious, I clicked through.

I sent an email to Whitney, Cameron's wife, with some pretty basic questions. I was a watch newbie. Whitney was so kind and patient.

I sent more emails. Whitney replied with more kindness and patience.

As I looked around and read more about Weiss, I started to feel like these were my peeps.

I sent Whitney some pictures of life here in the Colorado mountains. She noticed I'm a Deadhead and told me about Cameron's connection with Grateful Dead founding member Bobby Weir.

The signs, the feelings, and the vibe were all so right.

Then one day, out of the blue, I got an email about a unique, one-of-one Weiss piece: the Cardinal CAL 1003. The dial was so rich and full of life. Somehow, I bought it before anyone else grabbed it.

Well, not just somehow. This is what happens when the vibe is right. I've felt it at Grateful Dead and Dead & Company shows for years.

It's now eight months later. I'm a watch person. The Weiss crew are friends.

When I wear my Cardinal, I see and feel the people behind it. I dig that my Cardinal is about so much more than keeping time.

I'm grateful for Weiss. What a great trip it's been so far. My Cardinal was my first, but it won't be my last.

My story can happen to anyone.

“You just gotta poke around.”
